About Carolin
Who I am
I was born & raised in Berlin, or to be more precise: I grew up in an area called Mahlsdorf and went to school in Kreuzberg later on. In the early nineties, my parents wanted to keep pace with technological advances, so we got our first computer and dived into the world of online-learning. A PlayStation followed – and suddenly it was too late to take a step back. I guess I am what is commonly labeled: a digital native.
From a very young age on, I always valued the ability to constantly grow as a person. Never stop believing in everyone’s good heart & never stop being curious – simply never stop exploring as TNF would suggest.
«There are no dumb questions!» – That is the guideline of my life. Communication matters to me, whether it is with a smile or actual words spoken out loud. German is my first language (which I speak without an accent except a slight Berlin touch). En plus, je parle français aussi. But it would not be enough for business. «Og jeg kan ikke snakke norsk» combined with my incredibly strong German accent will break the ice in every Norwegian conversation. Also, I am trying to learn Hindi, a language I fell in love with ages ago. (And even though my Hindi skills are more than just limited, it does come in handy regarding Arabic sometimes.)
When I am not traveling around or trying to learn new languages, I read everything I come across. Mostly online as well as eBooks, obviously. In addition to that, I am an avid podcast listener. Knowing what is going on in the world is very important to me.
Moreover, I love to cook and cannot say No to a piece of cake and an espresso – a weakness I perfectly get along with since practicing Yoga and cycling around the city are my favorite things to do.
Last but not least, I discovered my passion for sewing. The idea of being able to create fully customized clothing is just fascinating!
What my CV is like
In June 2006, I successfully finished economics-oriented high school. With the Abitur in my hands, I went straight to university to study «Print & Media Technology» at → HTWK Leipzig. During my main studies, I decided to specialize in electronic publishing and have been working in this field since then.
In 2009, I spent a practical semester at → Mediengruppe Oberfranken in Bamberg in order to gain more in-depth experience in the publishing industry. From August 2009 until February 2010, it was time to go abroad, and I chose one of my favorite countries for that adventure: Norway. Erasmus, here I come!
Shortly after my return to Germany, I started to work on my diploma thesis about enhanced eBooks in ePub format with educational purposes. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to collaborate with → C.C. Buchner, a major educational publishing house in Germany.
After having successfully finished my studies in May 2011, I subsequently got employed by → NEXT Munich. The App Agency., which is why I moved to Munich. As Head of Production of Digital Publishing, most of my → work covered the production of enhanced children’s books, meaning conceptualizing & animating eBooks.
After two and half years of working & living in Munich, I decided to take some time off in order to rework my CV and prepare for self-employment. This included setting up my own website, attending MOOCs, improving Adobe Creative Cloud skills and getting to know various cultures & lifestyles. I started off in NYC, stayed there for three months, returned to Europe afterwards – and have been living and working as a freelancer in Berlin since.
I consider myself a creative engineer with a passion for #dataprivacy and #edutech – seeking problems & solving them.
